The Mask

So how familure does this look? Could this be your mask? Do you put on a mask? I bet if you have a chronic illness you do!

So this mask represents what many deal with! We put on a mask so that others can’t see how much we are suffering. I wrote an earlier blog on the Little white lie! I like many others have a drawer full of masks to wear. I don’t like telling or letting others know how much I’m hurting or not feeling good. A common problem with those with chronic disease. Almost every person I’ve met with pancreatic disease has a mask or multiple masks.

The red words on the temples are what we feel or what is going on in our head.

Death, Weak, Sadness, Alone, Fear, Anxiety, Hate, Guilt, Rejection, Anger, Hopelessness, Memories, Depression, Jealous.

The yellow words from the mouth are what we tell everyone.

Secure, Acceptance, Peace, Loving, Life, Strong, Happy, Joy, Hope, Courage

Things people see are the scars, and tears.

To my friends and family, mental health is serious. If you need help, get it.

To my firefighter brothers and sisters, there is no shame in getting help if you need it.

To those with a chronic illness, please ask for help. I truly believe anyone with pancreatic disease needs to be checked for depression.

Hope and Courage!

  1. Excellent insight Dan. It is so true of any chronic illness, depression seems to be part of it. Dealing with it on the the hand is harder, not so easy a fix.
